How to use Rockumentaire in the Classroom
WHY USE THESE VIDEOS?: Teaching important grammatical and thematic structures can be a difficult task. To add to this pressure, Ontario teachers are mandated to use media/technology in the classroom 10-15% of the time. "Rock videos" are one of the most popular mediums that students relate to and enjoy. "Rockumentaire" is the result of combining what students and teachers want with what they need.

HOW DOES ONE USE THESE VIDEOS?: This video appeals to the "communicative approach" and "multiple intelligences" styles of learning. Simply playing these videos in the classroom will get your students singing, dancing, moving and learning these important structures but there’s more.... the possibilities are endless with this video.

TIPS: Here are some great suggestions for use of the video in your classroom:
play video to introduce or reinforce structures covered in the songs as part of a Unit you are covering
play video to introduce or reinforce the songs along with the Étienne CD’s and manuals
play the video and challenge students to write down the words that appear in the videos (can be done in groups as a mini-competition)
have students then watch the video again and identify what the French words mean in English (ex. les yeux=the eyes as illustrated in the video Dansez!)
pose questions concerning each video. Questions may be about what the song teaches or can be general questions such as what Étienne is wearing or the colour of the shirts of the students on stage etc. (have your students make up the questions!)
encourage students to create their own ‘rock videos’ to one of Étienne’s songs (see "Chez Moi" manual for complete "Rock Video Unit")
